Michael Johnson, Auckland, MNZM
For services to paralympic sport. Mr Johnson has been competing as a paralympic athlete in shooting since 2001, and has represented New Zealand since 2003. He is a coach who works to mentor and encourage other disabled people into paralympic sport. He is President of Parafed Auckland, and works to assist in the promotion of sport and recreation for physically disabled people, enabling them to become active and independent. He was a gold medallist at the Athens 2004 Paralympics and set the world record for a perfect score of 600/600 points. He was a gold medallist in the International Paralympic Committee Shooting World Championships in 2010, and broke a world record. He won a bronze medal in the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing, as well as numerous other medals at international competitions.
