Neville Wran
Hon Neville Wran, of Sydney, New South Wales, received the Insignia of a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to New Zealand – Australia relations. Mr Wran, pictured after the ceremony with his family, served as a Member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for 12 years until 1986. He was the Leader of the Opposition from 1973 to 1976 and was appointed Premier in 1976. He held a number of other portfolios including Treasurer and Attorney-General. During his premiership he was instrumental in the state’s largest capital works programme, including the building of the Darling Harbour Precinct. He is the Executive Chairman of Turnbull & Partners Investment Bankers and the Deputy Chancellor of Bond University. Mr Wran is the Australian representative of the Eminent Persons Group of the Asia and Pacific Co-operation Council.
