Sir Peter Leitch, of Bucklands Beach
Sir Peter Leitch received the Insignia of a Knight Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to business and philanthropy. Sir Peter began the Mad Butcher chain of butcher shops more than 40 years ago in Māngere, Auckland. His business acumen and the force of his personality, which he used in his famous television advertisements, meant that this small business rapidly grew into a chain of more than 40 butcheries nationwide. He is well known as a staunch supporter of rugby league, and worked to raise the profile of the sport. He is an avid supporter of the Vodafone Warriors and was football manager of the Kiwis in their victorious 2005 Tri-Nations series. Sir Peter is Chair of the Mad Butcher, the Suburban Newspaper Trust, is involved with Diabetes Auckland, the Prostrate Cancer Foundation, Muscular Degeneration New Zealand, and is an ambassador for Allergy New Zealand.
