Frances Robinson, of Gisborne
Frances Robinson received a Queen's Service Medal for services to historic places. Mrs Robinson contributed to the New Zealand Historic Places Trust for 25 years until 2007. She was a member of the Tairawhiti branch, where she held a number of roles, including as Chairperson. She was involved with plans to preserve the visual connection between the Cook Landing Site, the water of Poverty Bay, and Young Nicks Head. This plan aimed to limit the encroachment of unsympathetic port development in the area and culminated in the establishment of a National Reserve in 1990. Mrs Robinson has authored a number of books, including Gisborne Exposed and Gisborne Landmarks: An Historical Guide, as well as writing biographical entries for The Dictionary of New Zealand Biography.
