John Perkins, of Wellington
John Perkins received a Queen's Service Medal for services to radio. Mr Perkins has been involved in public radio for more than 50 years. In 1972 he co-founded the weekly radio series, Spectrum, which tells the stories of New Zealand’s landscape and people. The series has become recognised as a valuable source of oral history and Mr Perkins has co-authored three books based on the series. He has produced a number of special programmes, including Resounding Radio, a definitive 10-part history of radio in New Zealand. His three-hour series on the life of Sir Edmund Hillary, It's One Thing to Climb a Mountain, was awarded a gold medal in the history section at the 2009 New York Radio Festival.
