For services to business. Mr Smith has contributed to New Zealand’s agricultural, aviation, tourism and export sectors for more than 50 years. An engineer by profession, in 1968 he shifted his focus to sheep farming, and over the following 10 years established New Zealand’s largest Stud Perendale breeding flock. In 1976 he established the Perendale Wool Exporting Company, helping to open up new export markets for New Zealand farmers. In 1986, concerned that New Zealand’s historic aircraft were gradually disappearing, he established the Croydon Aircraft Company, which has restored numerous vintage aircraft from throughout the world.
