Rex Thomson, Dunedin, MNZM
For services to education and sport. Dr Thomson taught the sociology of sport at the University of Otago for 26 years before moving to Unitec in Auckland. His research has been published in text books and international journals. He has been a volunteer mentor, coach and administrator in sports clubs, and has been involved with community activities in Dunedin. He was involved in establishing the Wall of Fame at Otago University’s School of Physical Education. He was a member of the Unitec Research Ethics Committee. He is a volunteer mentor for the New Zealand Cricket Players' Association and has coached rugby for the Otago University Rugby Club.
