David Frew, Riverton, QSM
For services to the community. Mr Frew has a long record of voluntary service in leadership roles in organisations in Southland. He has been involved with music, rugby refereeing, the Wallace Early Settlers Association, local government and the Riverton Medical Trust. As a member of the Riverton Heritage and Tourist Centre Trust he was closely involved in building the new museum, which opened in 2007. He took a hands-on role for much of the five years of planning and construction. In 2009 he was instrumental in organising the successful Riverton District Schools 150 year reunion. Mr Frew is zone leader for the Western Southland District Scout Zone and was also involved in establishing the Riverton First Response Unit in 1985.
