Wally Wilson, Christchurch, QSM
For services to surf lifesaving and rugby league. Mr Wilson has been committed to the prevention of drowning for more than 36 years through his volunteer work with the South Brighton Surf Life Saving Club. He has been an active lifeguard, coach and manager, as well as holding executive positions in the Canterbury district surf lifesaving organisation and the national organisation. He has also been involved in the Linwood Rugby League Club since 1964. He captained the provincial team and was a New Zealand representative player in 1981. Mr Wilson was a senior selector and coach in the 1990s and was a board member of the Canterbury Rugby League Board in 1985 and 1986.
