Gillian Davies
Gillian Davies, of Napier, received the Queen's Service Medal for services to the theatre. Ms Davies has been involved in directing amateur theatre in Napier for more than 50 years. She is a life member of the Napier Operatic Society, where she has directed many popular shows, including Cats, 42nd Street, and Les Misérables. She has trained children and young people in theatre and developed programmes to train and support emerging directors. She also directed a children’s show Bugsy Malone, involving more than 60 children, which raised more than $70,000 for child cancer. Ms Davies received an Outstanding Women’s Award by the Napier City Council in recognition of her outstanding service to the arts in the Napier community.
