Bill Unwin
Judge Bill Unwin received the Insignia of a Companion of the Queen's Service Order for services to the judiciary. Judge Unwin was appointed as a District Court Judge in 1981 and served as for 28 years, based in Wanganui, Wellington and Nelson. He was Chairperson of the Liquor Licensing Authority from 2001 until 2009 and was responsible for many decisions affecting the sale of liquor. He was involved in the New Zealand Parole Board from its inception in 2002 until 2009, serving as Deputy Chair and Acting Chair, and was the regional convenor for the South Island. Prior to this appointment he Chaired the New Plymouth, Wanganui, Rangipo and Christchurch district prison boards for 17 years. Judge Unwin has also been involved in his local community, including as a marriage celebrant.
