Diana Parkes, Lower Hutt, MNZM
For services to textile art. Mrs Parkes is an internationally recognised textile artist. She has contributed to textile art in New Zealand through teaching, exhibiting and running a textile business. She has been a member of the Wellington Embroiderers’ Guild since 1972 and was instrumental in establishing Upper Hutt Embroiderers’ Guild. She taught community education classes in textiles from 1975 to 2002. She has been involved with the New Zealand Certificate of Embroidery qualification as an assessor and convenor. Mrs Parkes worked on the Wellington Shakespeare Society’s Globe curtains, which now hang at the Globe Theatre in London. Her work was been featured in the Montana World of Wearable Arts in 2006, 2007 and 2009.
