Margaret Burke, of Onehunga
Margaret Burke received the Queen's Service Medal for services to veterans' affairs. Mrs Burke has worked as the manager of Support Services, Pension Advocacy and Veterans' Health and Welfare for the Auckland RSA for the last nine years. She visits veterans and their families to provide support, especially to widows and grieving families. She initiated the Veterans' Health Management Service to provide veterans with up-to-date health and financial information. She has also worked closely with veterans in making successful claims to the War Pensions Claims Panel. Three years ago Mrs Burke liaised with various Korean veteran groups to enable their war veterans to march with New Zealand Veterans at ANZAC Day commemorations. Mrs Burke's contribution in this regard means that the presence of South Korean veterans in ANZAC Day marches is now an important part of ANZAC Day services.
