Kura Kaa, of Tikitiki
Kura Kaa, of Tikitiki, received the Insignia of a Companion of the Queen's Service Order for services to the restoration of historic places. Mrs Kaa has organised the restoration of a number of historic places for many years. She is notable for her organisation and oversight of the restoration of Tapairu Pa in Waipawa and St Mary’s Memorial Church in Tikitiki, which was featured in New Zealand Geographic in 2002. She organised new trustees, secured funding, and worked with the New Zealand Historic Places Trust through James Blackburne Conservation Architects of Gisborne. Mrs Kaa was also the driving force behind the restoration of the Taumata o Tapuhi Marae and the Wharenui Te Aokairau at Rangitukia. She is currently involved in fundraising for three different marae in her community.
