John Ormiston, Auckland, ONZM
For services to medicine. Dr Ormiston has been involved in the development of the interventional treatments for coronary artery disease in New Zealand. He was involved in the field of percutaneous intervention—coronary angioplasty—and was a founding co-ordinator of the New Zealand Angioplasty Registry in 1995 and the New Zealand Interventional Group in 1997. His research achievements have included establishing a centre for the bench testing of stents, which contributes to innovation and patient safety, and the percutaneous replacement of aortic valves. Dr Ormiston has developed a national and international reputation, reflected in his membership of the Interventional Scientific Council of the American College of Cardiology.
