James Edwards
Dr James Edwards, of Otaki, received the Insignia of an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to the veterinary profession and the community. He has held offices in the New Zealand Veterinary Association, the Asian Veterinary Association and the World Veterinary Association. He worked to strengthen relationships with the World Organisation for Animal Health and the World Society for the Protection of Animals where he played a significant role in gaining the veterinary profession support of the Universal Declaration on Animal Welfare. He promoted the development of professional standards and is an advocate for the improved welfare of animals. He led the review of New Zealand standards for the export of live animals. He is a member of the Veterinary Council of New Zealand and a member of the Royal Society of New Zealand. Dr Edwards has been involved in the Otaki community where he co-led the development of a primary health organisation.
