Dr George Salmond, of Wellington, CNZM, for services to health
Dr Salmond was a Research Fellow and Lecturer at Otago University’s Department of Preventive and Social Medicine. He was Director of Management Services at the Department of Health. As Director-General of Health, he oversaw the introduction of Area Health Boards. He has led New Zealand delegations to World Health Organisation meetings and been a technical advisor to WHO. He was inaugural Director of the Health Services Research Centre and has served on many advisory committees. He was founding Secretary and later President of the future New Zealand College of Public Health Medicine. Dr Salmond has contributed to local community health services, especially in Porirua. He has been Trustee for the Wise Group and is Director of Te Pou, Chairman of Blueprint Centre of Learning and an associate of Healthcare Aoteoroa.
