Kerry Bensemann, of Christchurch, QSM, for services to the community
Mr Bensemann established the 0800 Hungry Ministries Trust, a Christian charitable trust that provides food bank services in Canterbury. 0800 Hungry sources food from various companies and distributes food packages to the poor and needy from Halswell to Rangiora. It also funnels food parcels through 130 local churches and agencies and has built relationships with suppliers including AS Wilcox and Sons, Heinz Watties, Tip Top Bread, Meadow Mushroom, Griffins, and Kelloggs. Mr Bensemann mobilised 0800 Hungry’s resources to help families of mine workers following the Pike River Mine disaster and in the wake of the Christchurch earthquakes.
