Dr Zaf Khouri, of Hamilton, ONZM, for services to odontology
Dr Khouri is a forensic odontologist and a dental surgeon. He is an expert in several areas, including the dental identification of deceased individuals and the analysis of human and non-human bite marks. He is a founding member and past President of the New Zealand Society of Forensic Odontology (NZSFO). He is Regional Coordinator for the NZSFO for the Waikato-Bay of Plenty-Coromandel region. He was the Secretary of the New Zealand Dental Association Waikato/Bay of Plenty Branch. After the Christchurch earthquake, he acted as an assurance odontologist in the mortuary. He assisted the Australian disaster victim identification team after the Victorian bushfires of 2009, and was deployed to Phuket, Thailand following the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami. He has trained other forensic odontologists and contributed to many education sessions and conferences.
