Alan Parris, of Christchurch, MNZM, for services to mathematical education
Mr Parris has taught mathematics for more than 40 years. He has been Director of the annual New Zealand Mathematics Olympiad residential camps and has written and moderated for the Australian Mathematics Competition. Within Canterbury, he has contributed to the Cantamath regional competition and founded the Literacy and Numeracy Empowerment Project to help students succeed in education. He produced and coordinated the online National Mathematics Week programme. He is a Life Member and former President of the National Association of Mathematics Teachers. Mr Parris has been a member of the Royal Society of New Zealand’s Education Committee, Teacher Fellowships Panel, and Mathematics and Information Sciences Committee.
