Michael Gorman, of Christchurch, QSO, for services to the community
Mr Gorman is City Missioner and Chief Executive of the Christchurch City Mission. Following the Christchurch earthquakes, he developed the Mission’s processes and resources to support those affected, while ensuring the usual work of the Mission continued. He initiated the Women’s Night Shelter, the Men’s Day Programme, and short-term accommodation for families in conjunction with the City Council. He employed a social worker to offer mobile support in the eastern suburbs. He helped design and raise money for the new City Mission buildings. He has fostered relationships with the Mission’s partners, including The Press, Harvey Cameron Group, Foodstuffs and The Crusaders. Mr Gorman has been an active Rotary member and Club President. He previously worked for Child, Youth and Family and the New Zealand Society of the Intellectually Handicapped.
