Dame Patsy and Frances Clarke Award Outstanding Contribution recipient, Sue Elsworth
Sue’s involvement with the Down syndrome community began 18 years ago with the birth of her son, Harry.
Sue played a major role in securing funding and support for a Speech Language Therapy (SLT) programme for children with Down Syndrome in Wellington.
She was also instrumental in setting up a group for Primary School aged children, that she hoped would assist them to form friendships that would last into adulthood, but also allow parents and guardians to make friends, learn from, and support each other. with Down Syndrome. The group has stayed together for 12 years and the young people attending this group have developed very real friendships.
