The late Sergeant Faulkner joined the New Zealand Regular Army on 18 May 1959 and was posted to the Royal New Zealand Infantry Regiment. He joined Victor Company in Terendak Camp, Malaysia in November 1969 and arrived in South Vietnam on 10 May 1970.
During his service with the company he has shown great skill and aggressiveness and his leadership has always been an inspiration to the younger soldiers serving under him.
In commanding his platoon during the platoon commander’s absence and in the setting of ambushes and control of many successful contacts Sergeant Faulkner has shown professional competence of the highest quality. His performance has been a credit to himself, his company and in the highest traditions of the New Zealand Army.
Sergeant Faulkner’s award is being received today by his sister Ms Anne Candy, QSO, JP.
