Dr Jackie Blue, of Rotorua, MNZM, for services to women and the State
Dr Jackie Blue was New Zealand’s first Breast Physician and was elected President of the Australasian Society of Breast Physicians. As a Member of Parliament, she chaired three cross-party Parliamentary Committees with a focus on human rights and women’s rights in the Pacific Islands. She served as the Equal Employment Opportunities Commissioner at the Human Rights Commission. She campaigned for pay equity for women and fair pay for carers. In her role as Human Rights Commissioner for women’s rights, Dr Blue delivered a speech to the United Nations Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women about violence against women in New Zealand.
