Mr Alistair Spierling, of Greytown, ONZM, for services to the State and the community
Alistair Spierling worked for the Department of Social Welfare in various roles for 27 years. He founded the New Zealand Parole Board and was its manager until his retirement, growing the Board’s capacity to manage more than 9,000 hearings every year. He set high standards to ensure that all victims were well informed and treated with compassion and respect. He is a Pacific representative for the Association of Paroling Authorities International and has been a consultant to several overseas parole boards. He was a founding member of the Wairarapa United Football Club, served as a coach and senior administrator, and is a Life Member. Mr Speirling is a member of the South Wairarapa Working Men’s Club and was an elected member of the Kuranui High School Board of Governors.
