Ms Christina Barton, of Wellington, MNZM, for services to art history and curation
Christina Barton worked as Assistant Curator at the Auckland Art Gallery and Curator of Contemporary New Zealand Art at the Museum of New Zealand in Wellington.
She taught Art History at Victoria University of Wellington before becoming Director of the University’s Adam Art Gallery, a position she continues to hold.
She co-edited the art journal ‘Antic’ and co-curated the landmark exhibition ‘Alter/Image: Feminism and Representation in New Zealand Art 1973-1993’.
She has mentored numerous young students and written or edited more than 100 books, book chapters, and articles. Ms Barton has been a selector for the Walters Art Prize and for New Zealand’s representative at the Venice Biennale.
