Dame Cindy and Mrs Shirley Kerr, of Rotorua, MNZM for services to mycology
Shirley Kerr taught at several secondary schools, specialising in biology, and has been a driving force for mycological exploration and education in the Bay of Plenty. She built an online database of species and published the acclaimed book ‘A Field Guide to New Zealand Fungi’. She has found at least five previously undescribed species and recorded more than 600 species. She served on the Fungal Network of New Zealand council, including time as Treasurer, and helped organise four New Zealand Fungal Forays. Mrs Kerr has voluntarily run photography workshops, fostered children’s interest at national forays, organised field trips, carried out public speaking engagements, and provided samples for overseas examination.
