Ms Glo Oxenham, of Lower Hutt, QSM for services to the Melanesian community
Glo Oxenham has promoted Solomon Islands and Melanesian culture as President of the Lower North Island Wantok Association and Wellington Solomon Islands Community Group. She supports students from the Solomon Islands studying in Wellington. She has advised councils on language and culture and was Project Leader of the Melanesian Independence Day celebrations. She co-founded the Wellington Melanesia Women and Friends Group. With Porirua’s Pataka Museum, she hosted the ‘Woven Bags of Melanesia’ exhibit and a ‘Melanesia Day’. Ms Oxenham has taught Pidgin English to New Zealand Police and NZDF personnel and provided cultural training for New Zealand Diplomats.
