Vigil for the Christchurch Earthquake

The Governor-General, Rt Hon Sir Anand Satyanand, and Lady Susan Satyanand attended a Vigil for the 6.3 magnitude earthquake which struck Christchurch on 22 February 2011, at 12.51pm. The Vigil was held exactly a week later, on 1 March 2011, and from 12.51pm, two minutes of silence was observed by the thousands gathered on the lawn and forecourt of Parliament.
