This afternoon at Government House Auckland, Dame Cindy welcomed leaders from New Zealand's Muslim and Jewish communities, and representatives from the Ministry for Ethnic Communities, for a very special event marking the signing of the Harmony Accord. The Accord, based on the United Kingdom’s landmark Drumlanrig Accord, seeks to foster deeper understanding, reconciliation, and friendship between communities.
In her speech, Dame Cindy quoted the whakataukī: 'He aroha whakatō, he aroha puta mai. If kindness is sown, then kindness you shall receive,' and thanked signatories for the kindness they sowed on this significant day for interfaith relations in New Zealand.
