West Lynn Garden is a beautiful community garden in New Lynn, nurtured by generations of volunteers since it was established in 1981. Earlier this week, the Governor-General visited the Garden to continue a longstanding vice-regal tradition – planting an Acer palmatum ‘Sango-kaku’, or Coral Bark Maple.
Though the rain made an appearance, spirits remained high as Dame Cindy joined volunteers and supporters who help keep this special place flourishing. As she reflected in her remarks: 'To plant something is to imagine a future beyond the present moment – trusting that, with patience and care, something small will take root and offer beauty, shelter, or nourishment to others.'
