This morning, Dr Davies attended the commemoration of Merchant Navy Day at Pukeahu National War Memorial Park. Merchant Navy Day marks the anniversary of the sinking of the first British merchant ship, just hours after the declaration of the Second World War in 1939.
Dr Davies is the Patron of Mission to Seafarers Oceania. The ceremony honoured and remembered the seafarers who played their part in supporting our island nation through war and conflict, with particular recognition of the women who served aboard merchant vessels.
