New Zealand officially acknowledged our new King in an accession proclamation ceremony. This took place at Parliament Buildings, in Wellington, following the Accession Council in the United Kingdom.
The Proclamation of Accession ceremony was held at Parliament at 12.30PM on Sunday 11 September. The Parliament forecourt was available to invited guests, and members of the public were welcome to gather on the grounds. The ceremony can be viewed below.
The New Zealand accession proclamation ceremony formally acknowledges that New Zealand has a new King. It also notifies publicly the royal style and titles of the new King of New Zealand.
On the day of the accession proclamation ceremony, flags return to full mast on government buildings. They will be lowered at the end of the day and remain at half-mast until the day after the New Zealand Memorial Service. Visit our flag protocol section for more guidance.
