To mark Sea Sunday, Dr Davies joined the Wellington Mission to Seafarers, representatives from the Royal New Zealand Navy, and Ambassador Kira Azucena of the Republic of the Philippines at St Barnabas Church for a Sea Sunday Service. This day honours the approximately 1.5 million people around the world who work as seafarers – the world’s second most dangerous occupation. The Mission’s volunteers are renowned for hand-knitting beanies to give to seafarers visiting our port. During the service, these kind gifts were blessed by Reverend Cath Growcott before making their way to new owners.
