Dame Coral Shaw received the insignia of a Dame Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit this morning for her years of exceptional service to the judiciary, public service, and the wider community.
Dame Coral chaired the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Historical Abuse in State Care and in the Care of Faith-based Institutions from 2019 to 2024, and has been deeply involved with voluntary initiatives across prisoner rehabilitation, services to seniors, marae-based and local community services, and the Citizens Advice Bureau.
At the ceremony, Dame Cindy also presented Royal Honours insignia to seven other outstanding New Zealanders for services across agriculture and governance, Māori and business, the performing arts and education, ethnic communities, music, and the community.
