Professor Tom Roa received his CNZM this morning at Government House Auckland for his many years of service to Māori language and education – notably his advocacy for the recognition of te reo Māori as an official language of New Zealand, and the launch of Te Wiki o te Reo Māori.
Distinguished Professor Emeritus Paul Spoonley received his ONZM for his prolific and impactful academic career across the areas of social change and demography – while Ms Helena Tuteao received her MNZM for services to people with disabilities and Māori. Recipients were acknowledged across a range of fields including education, costume design, athletics, and rugby league.
