Dr Helen Snell, MNZM, of Palmerston North, for services to nursing and diabetes care
Dr Helen Snell is Nurse Practitioner and Nurse Lead of the Diabetes and Endocrinology Service at Te Whatu Ora MidCentral Health. She developed the National Diabetes Nursing Knowledge and Skills Framework for the MidCentral District Health Board and the Ministry of Health to ensure a consistent approach to diabetes care delivery. She was project lead for the development of online diabetes learning modules for health professionals and consumers. She was lead for a successful pilot Diabetes Nurse Prescribing project, which led to her overseeing the rollout of Diabetes Registered Nurse prescribing nationally. Dr Snell was the first non-physician President of the New Zealand Society for the Study of Diabetes.
