Ms Alison McDonald, of ĹŚtaki, MNZM for services to translation and interpretation services
Ms Alison McDonald has been pivotal in the development and implementation of the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) certification system, which provides a consistent credential for interpreters and aligns with international benchmarks. She has helped ensure the success of the Language Assistance Services Programme, and liaised with the New Zealand Society of Translators and Interpreters, New Zealand tertiary institutions, NAATI and interpreters in need of training and certification. Her efforts have enhanced access to public services for individuals with limited English proficiency. Ms McDonald was influential in the University of Canterbury’s development of two postgraduate degrees in translation and interpreting.
