Richie Guy
Richie Guy, of Waipu, received the Insignia of an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to rugby. Mr Guy played nine matches for the All Blacks as a prop and 91 games for North Auckland before he moved into a distinguished career as a sports administrator. He joined the New Zealand Rugby Union Council in 1984, and was the manager of the All Blacks team that won the inaugural Rugby World Cup in 1987. He became Chair of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union in 1995, and played a large part in creating the South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby Agreement in 1996. He has been a dedicated member of the Waipu Rugby Club for most of his life, and served as Chair of the North Auckland Rugby Union and of Sport Northland. He was named a 'Rugby Legend' as part of the Living Legends Programme in 2011.
