Dr James Judson
Dr James Judson, of Auckland, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, for services to intensive care medicine. Dr Judson recently retired as an intensive care specialist at Auckland City Hospital’s Department of Critical Care Medicine, where he was Chairman and Clinical Director from 1994 to 2000. He has been at the forefront of intensive care practice in New Zealand and Australia. Through hard work, often undertaken outside standard working hours, he has contributed to advances in intensive care treatment and has been a mentor and role model for numerous specialists. A founding member of the Australia and New Zealand Intensive Care Society in 1975, he was New Zealand Chair from 1982 to 1988 and Society President from 1989 to 1991. A member of the Society’s Committee on Death and Organ Donation since 1992, he has worked part-time with Organ Donation New Zealand since 2009. He was on the executive of the Whole Time Senior Medical Specialists Association from 1981 to 1989 and was a founding member of the Association of Salaried Medical Specialists in 1989, serving as national vice-president from 1991 to 1993.
