John (Tony) Gibson
John (Tony) Gibson, of Whangaparaoa, received the Insignia of a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit,for services to engineering and the community. Mr Gibson was the President of the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand for the year 2000 to 2001, and has recently played a pivotal role in fire engineering and design in New Zealand. Early in his career he was a leading innovator in the design, construction, and manufacture of high-performance laminated timber structures. He has presented influential seminars, including Choosing the Future, given in 40 venues throughout New Zealand. He has advised the Government on infrastructure development and he was instrumental in the establishment of the National Infrastructure Unit within Treasury. He is also a past Chair of the West End Rowing Club, a former New Zealand rowing champion, and continues to compete as a masters sculler and rower. Mr Gibson is a trustee of the Hibiscus Hospice.
