Associate Professor Merata Kawharu, MNZM, Dunedin
For services to Māori education. Associate Professor Merata Kawharu has contributed to Māori through her writing, and to the New Zealand Historic Places Trust and the Māori Heritage Council. She is the Director of the James Henare Māori Research Centre at the University of Auckland. She has written extensively on Māori development and the impact of the Resource Management Act. Associate Professor Kawharu published ‘Whenua : Managing Our Resources’, which was shortlisted for the Montana Book Awards in 2003. In 2000 and 2010, Associate Professor Kawharu received the Marsden Fund Award.
