Dr Andrew McKenzie, QSO, Greytown
For services to the State. Dr Andrew McKenzie was Chief Executive of the New Zealand Food Safety Authority from 2007 to 2010. He is an acknowledged international leader in food safety and trade, who has contributed to significant international agreements in the trade arena that have made a difference to the competitiveness of the New Zealand economy. His contributions in relation to the sanitary standards influenced the outcomes New Zealand achieved from the GATT Uruguay Round of negotiations. A notable achievement was reforming the traditional approach to meat inspection and verification. He worked to promote and implement a sound scientific approach to food standards and regulation. Mr McKenzie served as the Chair of the Meat Hygiene Committee of the Codex Alimentarius Commission, an international commission established by the Joint FAO/WHO Food Standards Programme. He also chaired the World Organisation for Animal Health's Animal Production Food Safety Group.
