Rainus Baker, Whakatane, QSM, for services to people with an intellectual disability
Mr Rainus Baker has represented People First, an advocacy organisation run by and for people with a learning/intellectual disability, on the Disability Services Consumer Consortium. He is a member of the Ministry of Health Māori Disability Leadership Group. He has completed training as an advocate for Works4Us, an employment relations education course to assist people with a learning/intellectual disability. He is a recognised leader and tireless worker in the Māori disability community and for more than 10 years he has supported people with a learning/intellectual disability to live an ordinary life. Mr Baker was profiled in the ‘A Window On My Life’ displays to promote the National Health Committee report ‘To Have An Ordinary Life’.
