For services to the State. Rear Admiral Tony Parr has held the appointment of Chief of Navy since 1 May 2009. He led the team that developed a detailed framework by which the Royal New Zealand Navy would be able to take delivery of and integrate the planned Project Protector Fleet. Since appointment as Chief of Navy, he has overseen the successful introduction into service of the new ships of this fleet. Over his 32-year naval career, he has held a range of staff and command appointments at sea and ashore and has consistently performed in a superior and exemplary manner in providing leadership and direction. In 1986 Rear Admiral Parr was made a member of the Royal Victorian Order.
