Chief Fire Officer Rodney Caldow, QSM, Foxton Beach
For services to the New Zealand Fire Service. Chief Fire Officer Rodney Caldow has been a volunteer fire fighter for the Foxton Beach Fire Brigade for 36 years, and has been Chief Fire Officer for the last 15 years. He owns a local business, Caldow Builders Ltd, employing 13 builders, and encourages his employees to get involved in the local volunteer fire brigades. He is the President of the Manawatu Certified Builders Association. He has been a member of the Manawatu Coast Guard for 27 years, and has provided search and rescue services to the New Zealand Police on numerous occasions. In 2009, when the Samoan tsunami struck, he organised Horowhenua businesspeople to raise funds to build two fales. At his own expense, along with others, he went to Samoa with his tools to build the fales. Chief Fire Officer Caldow is known in the Horowhenua district for his leadership and dedication to serving his community.
