Bob Henderson, Auckland, MNZM, for services to sporting aviation
Mr Bob Henderson has been President of the International Gliding Commission since 2004, the Executive Director of the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale since 2008, and was President of Gliding New Zealand. In 2007 he was the Event Director of the New Zealand Air Games in Wanaka. He strongly emphasised safety and accident avoidance. He helped with the development of the ‘Grand Prix’ gliding race, which is now the principal marketing tool for the sport of gliding. He developed a strategic plan for the organisation, and facilitated the development of training standards and programmes. As Chair of the International Gliding Rules Committee from 2001 to 2004 he developed standards and rules for international gliding events. In the 1990s Mr Henderson lectured on the human factors in aviation at the Department of Psychology at the University of Auckland.
