Patricia Morrison, Wellington, QSM, for services to the prison library service
Ms Patricia Morrison is a volunteer with the Department of Corrections, and has become the voice of the literary needs of prisoners. She has brought about a much improved national library service for prisoners over the last 10 years. She wrote a comprehensive report on the state of libraries in prisons around the country. She volunteers at three Wellington prisons and has worked to improve the libraries in each. She has worked with the staff of the Corrections Department to establish a library at Invercargill Prison. She has worked to encourage publishers to donate titles. She has arranged for visits by prominent authors, including Lee Child, to Wellington prisons. Ms Morrison works with other volunteers to support and coach them in running the libraries.
