Michael (Mike) Hannaway, QSM, Wellington.
For services to architectural conservation. Mr Mike Hannaway has been a successful architect and in 2011 completed a five-year project as the Senior Project Manager responsible for the Government House Wellington Conservation Project. Mr Hannaway led a team of specialist advisors and tradespeople through the concept development, detailed design, project implementation and commissioning stages. He was previously associated with the development of New Zealand’s first five-star green building, Meridian Energy’s head office in Wellington. He was the Project Manager for Waitangi Park and was involved in the initial stages of the Wharewaka project, both on Wellington’s waterfront. His leadership of the Government House Conservation Project has contributed to one of New Zealand’s most significant and historical wooden buildings being preserved for future generations. In 2011, Mr Hannaway received two excellence awards in the special purpose property category, for heritage and adaptive reuses, in the Property Council Awards for his work on the Government House Conservation Project.
