Struan Munro, QSM, Kurow.
For services to local body affairs and the community. Mr Struan Munro has given four decades of service to local government and the Waitaki community. He was the inaugural Chair of the Otematata Community Board in 1980, and served for three years. In 1983 he was elected as the Ahuriri Riding member for the Waitaki County Council, which he chaired from 1986 to 1989, overseeing its amalgamation with the Oamaru Borough Council. He served the Waitaki District Council for 18 years, from its establishment until his retirement in 2010. As a Councillor he negotiated land for a public toilet in Omarama, arranged seed funding for the Benmore Irrigation Company, and helped establish the Waitaki Development Board. He has been associated with the Kurow Presbyterian parish as an active member, organist and lay preacher since the 1970s. Mr Munro is a Justice of the Peace who has served several terms on the executive of the North Otago JPs Association.
